Self Contained Units and Split Systems
For

Self
Contained
Self contained systems are coolers that contain the
evaporator (blower) and condensing/compressor in the
same box. These units are also pre-charged, meaning
they are already filled with refrigerant so an HVAC/Refrigeration
tech is not typically required to install them. The
location of self contained units can be in the wall,
inside the wine cellar or even outside the wine cellar.

Split
Systems
Split systems are wine cellar climate control
units that separate the evaporator (blower) and the
condenser unit (which has the compressor). The complete
system connects the 2 parts with refrigeration pipes
and is then charged (filled with refrigerant) by a licensed
technician. The evaporator is either ductless or ducted.
Ductless evaporators are mounted in the room, and ducted
evaporators will usually be located outside of the wine
cellar. In both cases, the condensing unit is located
either outside of the building or in another room. WhisperKOOL
offers air-cooled and water-cooled compressors.
